Little Tuscarora Creek Restoration and Habitat Creation

Project Brief

A tributary to Tuscarora Creek, Little Tuscarora Creek is sourced at Gambrill State Park, and flows 4.1 miles eastwards, with an ultimate destination in the Monocacy River. Years of agricultural impacts, poor stream bed diversity, and stream bed siltation have significantly impacted the biodiversity and health of the Little Tuscarora Creek. The ultimate goal of this project was to work to establish a suitable habitat for brook trout and to stabilize and rehabilitate the steam banks within the project area. This project was executed and completed through the use of “J-Hook Vanes,” to reduce stream velocity and bank erosion, “Toe Wood,” to incorporate native woody material, and “Log Rollers,” to control grade and create aeration.
