Raven Rock Dam Removal

Project Brief

FSA prepared a full stream restoration plan for a section of Raven Rock Creek. Raven Rock Creek is a tributary to Antietam Creek. Raven Rock Creek originates in the highlands between South Mountain and the Catoctin Mountains and has a 3.5 square mile drainage area. The City of Hagerstown, MD draws water from Raven Rock Creek and diverts the flow into the Edgemont Reservoir as an emergency water supply in case the primary water supply from the Potomac River is interrupted. Included in FSA’s scope was partial dam removal, stream bank restoration and channel rerouting for safe fish passage.
