White Hall Dam Removal and Stream Restoration

Project Brief

FSA prepared a full stream restoration plan for a section of Little Falls stream in White Hall, Maryland. Little Falls is a tributary to the Gunpowder Falls. The watershed for Little Falls extends into York County, PA and has a 50 square mile drainage area within the Piedmont hydro-physiographic province. There was an existing concrete dam built to provide water to a local now mill which is now closed. The dam was determined to have no historical significance by the Maryland Historic Trust and served no purpose at time of removal. Along with a dam removal plan, FSA also prepared stream restoration plans using natural channel design that included channel rerouting for safe fish passage, and converted the reservoir into wetlands.
